Construction details aims to disseminate the Art of Consolidation and Structural Restoration of buildings damaged by earthquakes or other natural or man-made causes, including monumental assets of historical and artistic value, also in the hydrogeological context.
The text includes more than seven hundred figures of drawings, contained in paragraph-sheets, extracted from the design of interventions actually carried out.
In the construction details there is the conception, the imagination and the solution, first artisanal and then engineering, to structural needs.
This line of thought is based on the conviction that it is now time to disseminate, first of all, the cultured practice of "knowing how to read" structures, interpreting their needs and pathologies in order to resort to the most suitable intervention techniques while respecting the asset on which one is working.
The book is divided into three chapters: Structural failures of the superstructure, Foundation failures and Hydrogeological failures, which deal with complete types of intervention:
- temporary works;
- interventions on pillars and columns;
- interventions on horizontal structures;
- interventions aimed at reducing deficiencies in connections;
- interventions aimed at reducing the thrust of arches and vaults;
- creation of new openings in masonry;
- interventions on stairs;
- interventions on the roof;
- underpinning with large- and small-diameter piles;
- soil consolidation with trenches, drainage wells and geosynthetics;
- consolidation of masonry and rock walls by means of tie rods and small-diameter piles.
